To tip or not to tip. It's a popular question and I have strong feelings.

Tipping is an integral part of our history, wage policies, and culture. Let's dig into it.

Hey friends!

We have two 2️⃣ quick things to share today:

  1. On the blog, we kicked off a new series about tipping,

  2. And we launched Balance on the Apple App Store.

I’d love to hear from you on either or both! Please don’t hesitate to drop me a line to share ideas, feedback, questions.

Looking forward to it.

💁 New Blog Series on Tipping

It all started with a post that said "Down with tipping!".

I'm a veteran bartender and that did NOT sit well with me. Instead of crafting a rage-reply, I decided to widen my own lens and explore tipping's history and culture. Holy smokes, it turned into quite the project. So much so, that I've decided to make it a series.

To tip or not to tip? Observations and confessions on the debate from a real live bartender. Spoiler alert - it's complicated.

Future titles/topics I’m exploring:

  • Where does your gratuity go? Insights on tip-sharing and tip-pooling from a real-live bartender.

  • Tipping is discriminatory and exploitative. But given the choice, would servers eliminate it?

  • Gratuity for great service is one hell of a red-herring. What actually drives tipping?

  • Software killed the service star. How one button at click-to-pay wreaked havoc on an industry.

🎉 OMG, OMG, OMG…
We Made it to the App Store!

Well, one of them anyway. Be first to download the native app version of Balance available on Apple’s App Store by clicking that ginormous box below.

We’ll fast-follow with a launch on Google’s store too, so stay tuned.

Interested in a personal onboarding with me?
Reply to this email and we’ll set it up. I’d love to hear your thoughts on what we’re building and how we can make it better.

🙏 A Small Ask…

Help us get the word out?

Two simple ways you can contribute to amplifying 📣 Balance:

  1. Share from our blog! Grab a link and copy/paste a quote from one of the entries you enjoyed reading. Post it to any of your social channels to help us get the word out about Balance.

  2. Share our App Store Link! If it’s helpful, here’s a sample post you can use:

Check out this new app from Balance. ‎It’s not another “effing” budgeting app. It’s cash flow forecasting for the worker whose income is always changing. Track your tips, trust your paycheck, and see your future money on a calendar. It’s awesome. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/balance-cash/id6475201424
