#buildinpublic February 2023

Hey there Friends of Balance!

It’s February and love is in the air 💘. So are copious amounts of chocolate, flowers, and over-priced restaurant reservations. No matter how you feel about Valentines Day (love, hate, or indifferent) — it marks the beginning of a long stretch of candy season that will take us through spring into summer.

This is when the New Year’s Gym Resolutions are tested. I believe in you. What’s the point of having your cake if you can’t eat it anyway? 💪 🍰

At Balance, I’ve been busy on content and networking. Maybe you’ve noticed an uptick in my Twitter and LinkedIn posting? If not, well… then how about you head over that way and give those posts some love??

Tis’ the season after all, and it helps spread the word about Balance.

Speaking of Balance, check out our hit-lists 👇️ for the latest and greatest.

In case you missed it…

🚀 Launched our first version of Balance. 👉️ https://app.balance.cash

📹️ Made a handy demo video (5-min long, but still clear at 2x speed).

What’s new…

Who doesn’t love a good label-maker, am I right?

Thanks to my niece (the gal who inspired the “Damn Whiteboard” post☝️), we added labels as an optional feature when you create your estimates.

Use Case Example:
I bartend Friday nights. But some Fridays are better than others. If it’s a sold out show, I make more money. When I’m building out my estimates for future cash flow, the label helps me keep it straight.

Coming soon…

Great forecasters are born from experience.
Super-forecasters are born from attention to detail.

Coming soon, we’ll add an “actuals” feature to Balance.

Let’s say you’ve estimated the next three Thursday’s earnings at $350 per Thursday. After you work those days, you can update your estimate with the actual money you made that day.

Wait a minute... I thought Balance was all about looking forward and predicting future cash? WE ARE.

If you’re an independent worker, you generally know how much a shift, gig, appointment, or project is going to earn. But do you track your actuals regularly? Some do, some don’t.

With Balance, you’ll be able to do both - estimate your future earnings to predict your cash flow, AND update those estimates with what you actually made.

Why should you care?

Because when you track actuals, you get better at predicting your future.

And we can help you model much more sophisticated forecasts for the long term. 🔮

Got feedback? Feature requests?

We certainly hope so. Here’s how you can reach me:

I look forward to hearing from you. 🤗
